Miniature bronze tripods, ca. 8th century B.C., Bronze
The Archaeological Museum of Olympia, Greece
The objects above are miniature bronze tripods: tiny replicas of large-scale tripods, or cauldrons, which would have been awarded to victors of the original Olympic Games. Dating to the 8th century BCE, they provide some of the earliest evidence of the games at the site of Olympia in the archaic period.
